| Woods Chapel and I-70 |
The Woods Chapel Road Corridor is the gateway to Blue Springs on the city's
west side, and serves as a boundary between Independence and Blue Springs on
its journey north of Interstate 70.
The development community and city have long expressed interest in working together
to redevelop the properties at the intersection of I-70 and Woods Chapel Road,
particularly the land in the southwest quadrant of this intersection. The City
is now actively working with a developer to undertake improvements to Woods Chapel
Road from NW Valley View Drive to the exit ramp onto westbound Interstate 70.
This development proposal would involve a two-phase retail development anchored
by a 60-70,000 square foot grocer and drugstore with a total of 160-170,000 square
feet of retail shops and banks serving a population of 21,000 residents within a
two-mile radius of this development.
